Serve as a Lead Developer/Analyst and be responsible for Java-based application system analysis, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of programs and applications including Web development and XML interfaces to Policy, Billing, and Claims applications. This position will specialize in a specific development environment and is expected to translate business requirements into concise and robust technical solutions. This person will utilize best practices and methodologies to design, implement, and support the best solution for our clients. This Developer will work extensively with internal teams, clients, and vendors throughout the software development life cycle, providing subject matter expertise. Flexibility is required not only to be hands-on developing with multiple technologies but to educate and lead others in the form of code reviews, workshops, and documentation. The person in this role must have strong written and oral communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with Business Analysts to gather and document requirements
- Develop functional and technical specifications
- Prepare time estimates for individual deliverables
- Independently manages individual time and tasks
- Lead a team of Developers in discrete development task using Agile and/or Scrum approach
- Develop and unit test applications
- Create, document, and implement unit test plans, scripts, and test harnesses
- Create and maintain technical documentation using defined technical documentation templates
- Lead and mentor Developers and share knowledge through knowledge-sharing presentations
- Participate in an on-call, 24/7 coverage on a rotational basis
The successful applicant will possess the following requirements (items are required unless noted otherwise):
- 5-10 years of technical experience developing Web applications using following tech nologies
- Core Java with J2EE, Struts, JMS, EJB, AJAX, JavaScript, JSP, HTML, CSS,
- Ant, MyEclipse, and WebSphere Express
- SQL, UNIX Shell Scripting and Windows Scripting
- Desired experience with Blaze Rules Processor
- Desired experience with Stone River products (Claims Workstation, Policy Star, and FAB)
- Solid understanding of all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Must be passionate about building high-quality systems with software implementation best practices while leading and mentoring a team of Developers
- Must be client-facing and capable of working in a dynamic environment to collect and document business requirements
- Good writing and communication skills
- Must be capable of multi-tasking
- The ability to work with vendors on installations and upgrades
