JOB TITLE: Network Solutions Engineer


REPORTS TO: IT Services Manager


FLSA STATUS: Exempt




PURPOSE



Responsible for supporting the smooth operation of the network and computer environments deployed within SPS. This includes managing and troubleshooting existing infrastructure, and supporting a variety of software and hardware. The Network Solutions Engineer supports users in a variety of ways, and provides technical expertise to users by verbal or written means.




ESSENTIAL DUTIES




  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex converged data network and voice communication issues


  • Designs and implements a variety of networking technologies including; TCP/IP, DHCP, TFTP, VLAN, QoS, VoIP and various WAN technologies (Frame Relay, MPLS, etc)


  • Configures and imp lements data Switches and Routers including Cisco, Juniper, Avaya and Extreme


  • Creates QoS implementation plans, IP addressing schemes, and VLAN designs


  • Creates network topology maps utilizing MS Visio


  • Assures that pre-implementation converged network designs will support VoIP traffic


  • Analyzes end-to-end TCP/IP protocol traces to identify network connectivity issues


  • Acts as a technical lead on enterprise roll-outs and network projects.


  • Evaluate new hardware and software packages.


  • Work with all departments to analyze and assess their technology needs.


  • Create and design internal VOIP network as new technology and remote offices are introduced into the organization.


  • Administration of all user accounts, mailboxes, voice mail, and extensions.


  • Technical fault analysis and troubleshooting for internal network and remote gateways.


  • Monitoring and verification of telecommunications environment - ie backups, patch distribution and testing.


  • Maintenance of Telecommunications Network and office environment - ie cabling, switches, routers, UPS, VPN Phones, fax machines, Telephones and Mobile devices.


  • Must be able to demonstrate a firm understanding of routed and routing protocols.


  • Managing, ordering and provisioning Carrier circuits and supporting troubleshooting efforts for all carrier related issues.


  • Providing a wide range of technical support to all users - internal and external.


  • Provision servers, infrastructure hardware, IP Phones, client hardware and peripherals into data center and corporate environments.


  • Test and purchase corporate standard hardware while maintaining record of corporate assets.


  • Monitoring network security and alerts.


  • Install, support all desktop, mobile and server applications.


  • Developing documentation, including user guides, provide ongoing training of hardware and software usage.


  • Gathering data and preparing reports as required.


  • Undertaking internal project work when requested, including building and supporting pre-sales demo equipment and applications.


  • Serve as an escalation point for Help Desk team members


  • Provide after hour support as needed.








POSITION REQUIREMENTS




  • Education: Bachelors Degre e in computer science or comparable experience


  • Work experience 5-10 years of technical data networking experience


  • Technical Competencies:


  • Knowledge of traditional voice technologies


  • Knowledge of wireless LAN/WAN technologies


  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN security


  • Juniper, Extreme, Cisco and Avaya certifications, CCNA, ACA, JNCIA etc.


  • Knowledge of Microsoft Server Applications and Services


  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Work Environment
